Doug Bechanan began as Superintendent of Nicholas County Schools on July 1, 2018. He came to this position as no stranger to Nicholas County as he has worked his entire educational career in positions within the school system.
Mr. Bechanan began his teaching career in 1991 as an Agricultural Education Teacher and FFA advisor at Nicholas County High School. In 1998, he was named high school principal and maintained the position until 2005 when he was named District Administrator, responsible for personnel, federal programs, and grants.
A graduate of the University of Kentucky with undergraduate degrees in Agricultural Education and Agricultural Economics, Bechanan also obtain a graduate degree in Agricultural Education and certificates in Educational Administration and Supervision.
Growing up on a family farm in Elizabethtown, Kentucky , Mr. Bechanan has worked hard throughout his career to promote a positive school culture that reflects a strong student-centered educational philosophy and that actively includes staff, parents and the community. He is active in his church as well as local civic organizations. That being said, it is no surprise when Bechanan cites working with people and building relationships as his greatest strengths.
Mr. Bechanan lives in Nicholas County with his wife, Cassinda, and has two children Logan and Fielden.
